Making Your Bones

<>I'm writing this one from the Barnes & Noble cafe. It would seem that lately It's been too much to sit down with the journal before bed, so rather than miss it altogether, I'll do it early. <>

Today's writing was strange, both my lady and I kept striving for the 1,000 word mark, but it seemed to avoid us both. :) Some days writing is a lot like work. She said, "When I go back and read this first draft, I wonder what I'm going to think about this part that I'm writing now." I said, "You'll remember that you were just trying to make your words for that day." Sometimes that's just how writing goes. Each sentence stalls, sputters, and finally spits itself out, but there's no love or excitement. It's just there to fill the empty spaces. And then there's the days when it flows like rainwater from a gutter; nearly endless and cool and rich with tang. <>

I'm glad I'm back on a daily schedule with this though. Although I wonder if the style of this book with inevitably please me, it's nice to create every day, even if I'm just making my words. <>Sometime this week I've got to have a serious conversation with Dave and Samantha to discuss the preparations for SheVaCon. There's the feeling of optimism from a lot of folks that this convention will open a lot of doors for me. I remain safely non-committal. :)

Chapter Thirteen - "Bomber"

Chapter Twelve - "Malice" was finished today. Strangely, after having to re-write it from yesterday's debacle, I forgot an important piece off the ending. I did a little re-thinking and will have this section added to Chapter Thirteen. It makes more sense that way anyhow. Isn't it strange how mistakes sometimes turn things out for the better? This new chapter is important in that Brendan begins to realize that the impossible might in fact be occurring. The book gears up here as we grow closer to the final showdown (Part IV).

Sometimes mistakes allow you to see things in a whole new light...whether this leads to an epiphany or not is irrelevent, the point being there are no mistakes in writing. Get your thoughts out, say what needs to be said. Reframe it, reedit it, rewrite it, whatever, but just keep going. Stories just need to be told.

Jay--
Thanks for the comment ... and yes, stories MUST be told, and all authors are their slaves. :)

Eryk--
